A couple of years ago I had an interview from my very good friend and well known in the wi-fi world - Ferney Muñoz. We talked about several topics and I do not remember how we ended up talking about the origins for the name of the company I owe the start on my CWNE journey (back in 2007 I earned my CWNA) thanks Perry Correll to encourage us to obtain this certification.

It was exciting 8 years working for one of the most innovative wi-fi vendors, Xirrus. I learned a lot & it was excellent for my career to understand the foundations of The 802.11 Standard. At that point in time I already performed predictive and validation site surveying using APoS kits. As Xirrus engineers we were encouraged to deploy networks prepared for the imminent future of 5GHz oriented wi-fi infrastructures. I know, still today we can’t avoid to get 2.4GHz client devices connected but if you were looking for capacity oriented designs you would require at least more channels that were only provided by 5GHz band.

Having a software defined 16-multi-radio technology back then was impressive. Training partners and integrators in the region (Mexico and LATAM) served me to reinforce my knowledge every single day.

There is not a bad solution or good solution, good vendor or bad vendor. Important thing is understand customer requirements and how face them. Unclear requirements could cause a bad design and/or use the wrong technology. During the several deployments working at Xirrus including pre-deployment and post-deployment validation surveying I realized that one of the most relevant problems for this kind of technology to grow in the market of LATAM was Xirrus multiple radio array would not cover the needs on every single deployment because construction materials caused to waste for some of the radios. I remember to rise my hand in some QBR meetings and finally some years later the Xirrus AP with two radios came out and helped me to win some deals where multiple radio array would not fit.
